Prevention of Exclusion
The Kent PRU and Attendance Service provides advice and support in relation to Department for Education statutory guidance. Suspension and permanent exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, including pupil movement (August 2024)
Each school has a named Exclusion Intervention Advisers (EIAs) from the Kent PRU and Attendance Service who provides impartial advice on Department for Education guidance related to exclusions to ensure statutory duties are met by schools, governing bodies, academy trusts and the local authority.
Our services include but are not limited to:
- Advice to schools, parents and other agencies around the permanent exclusion and suspension process.
- Developing behaviour policies with schools.
- Governor and SLT Training on responsibilities in relation to exclusions
- Attendance at school meetings for pupils who are suspended or at risk of permanent exclusion.
- Representing the LA at statutory meetings such as appeal panels and independent review panels.
- Advice on the managed move and direction off site processes
- Guidance on the use of part time timetables
- Attendance advice to alternative provisions
- Representing KPAS at a range of district forums including LIFT, LIFT Executive, In Year Fair Access panels as well as District Contextual Safeguarding Meetings (DCSM).
