10 May 2024 weekly update

10 May 2024

This week, Christine updates on our post 16 transformation programme - Pathways for All and the development of a Kent model of Predictable and Exceptional need.

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend and the lovely weather, that arrived later. There’s not much to report this week, so a short introduction.

Post 16 transformation - Pathways for All

I have reported on the development of Pathways for All (PfA) from time to time, which has been Chaired by Tony Breslin. The work has really gained momentum over the last eighteen months with groups now established across the county developing a local post 16 offer to ensure all youngsters can access appropriate post 16 provision which is not the case currently. Following a rigorous recruitment process I’m delighted to let you know that Charlie Guthrie, Chief Executive of the Endeavour Trust has been appointed as the new Chair of the PfA, from a strong field of applicants. Congratulations to Charlie who has shared his thoughts about the post 16 sector in Kent and the role of PfA in this bulletin.

SEND

Over the last week I met with KsENT headteachers twice. At the second meeting we shared updates on the recommendations arising from the special schools review as well as the outcomes of the work on developing a Kent model of Predictable and Exceptional need. The review is being considered at next week’s KCC CYPE Cabinet committee, together with a report on Localities and the SRP review. If the papers are of interest, they are now available

And finally…

Active Kent and Medway have their annual Primary PE and Physical Activity Conference on Wednesday 5 June 2024 at the Kent Events Centre Detling and representatives from all primary schools across Kent and Medway are invited. This conference offers a range of support and great networking opportunities and more information can be found on The Education People website

With all best wishes
