A message from Christine McInnes:

14 June 2024 weekly update

14 June 2024

This week, Christine shares her thanks ahead of Thank a Teacher day on Wednesday 19 June.

Dear Colleagues,

It’s Thank a Teacher day on Wednesday 19 June, so ahead of that, a big thank-you to all the teachers and other education practitioners out there doing such a fabulous job day in, day out for Kent children and young people.

It’s a very long time ago but I still remember some standout teachers - South Africans Miss Edwards and Miss Gay who were so horrified to find no art materials at all in my Scottish school (Polkemmet Primary) that they bought us all colouring pencils, Miss Brown who made Biology cool and Eric Austin at Goldsmiths’ College who inspired me and made me see the world through a different lens.

Part of the business we rarely talk about is the Community Learning Service and a big thank you to the tutors there - here is some feedback about some of them:

  • Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship
Emily Wallace was everything you could ever hope for in a tutor and more, she is the sole reason that I achieved distinctions across the board. I hope that all future apprentices receive the same dedicated support and guidance that I experienced.
  • Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship
James Hyndman was very helpful and supportive throughout my apprenticeship and he was a great tutor.
  • Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship
Julie Mitchell (Tutor) - She is excellent, so helpful all the way through my apprenticeship!!! She deserves all recognition.

Well done - and to those whose work isn’t recognised in a public way.

Thanks to those of you that attended the first of this term’s headteacher briefings this week.

Best wishes

Christine McInnes
Director of Education and SEN
