Levelling Up: Maths for Black heritage students

The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science is delighted to be one of only five UK maths departments taking part in a new university access programme called 'Levelling Up: Maths for Black heritage students'.

The programme - a collaboration between learned societies, educational charities and organisations across STEM and the Black community - aims to encourage pupils of Black heritage to consider studying Mathematics or other STEM subjects beyond A-level,  to improve both their grades and their confidence to study at university.

Levelling Up: Maths for Black heritage students will be launched in the New Year, and the University of Kent will reach out to local schools for applications to take part in the programme. There is no cost to schools or pupils to participate.

The first cohort of pupils from Kent schools will be assigned to small virtual tutorial groups. They will be taught and mentored by University of Kent students of Black heritage over the course of their studies in Years 12 and 13.

More details about the programme can be found on the London Mathematical Society website
