2016-17 Primary PE and Sports Grant Allocations

On 26 October, the Education Funding Agency (EFA) notified the Local Authority (LA) of its schools 2016-17 academic year Primary PE and Sports allocations.

As a result of this notification, the Primary PE and Sports payment for the period September 2016 to March 2017 will be included in the November School’s advances. View the table of allocations here (PDF, 285.4 KB).

The allocations for the academic year 2016-17 are calculated by the EFA using the number of pupils in year groups 1 to 6, as recorded in the January 2016 census, as follows:

• schools with 17 or more pupils receive £8,000 plus £5 per pupil
• schools with 16 or fewer pupils receive £500 per pupil

The EFA have confirmed that the grant will continue until 2020 with an increase in the allocation expected from 2017 as a result of the government’s soft drinks industry levy. The specific detail in respect of the future allocations to schools has not been released and our expectation, as in previous years, is that the details will be issued annually each October.
