Attempted Fraud - High Court Writ

The Counter Fraud Team has received intelligence that primary schools may be targeted by callers claiming there is a High Court Writ against them.

A primary school in England received a telephone call claiming there is a High Court Writ against the head teacher for a service the school stopped paying for years before.

The caller demanded the school paid £3000 over the phone to stop the enforcement officer coming onto the premises. The caller became aggravated, used legal terminology, and tried to apply pressure on the call receiver. Steps you should take:

  • Please do not engage in conversations with persons who request money over the phone.
  • Ask the caller to send you the information by email or in a letter.
  • Do not disclose any personal information over the phone or make any payments.
  • If you do receive any calls of this nature please report it to the Counter Fraud Team at internal.audit@kent.gov.uk.
