Dramatic prize for young wannabe writers

Primary school children with a passion for the arts have the chance to become boss of a major theatre for a day.

A children’s charity has launched a creative writing competition to find a young writer who is out of this world. Whoever pens the best piece of writing will have the chance to take the helm of the Hazlitt theatre for a day.

The competition is run by the KM Charity Team which runs green travel and literacy schemes for schools. To enter, Primary school children must write about which superhero they would like to walk to school with and why.

Entries should be handwritten on an activity sheet called ‘To infinity and beyond’ and sent in the post. Submissions will be judged on creativity, awareness of the benefits of green travel, and quality of handwriting.

The winner will enjoy a VIP behind the scenes look at the Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone, from rehearsals to production and marketing meetings, and possibly even taking in a show.

Entries must be received by Friday, June 30. To find out more, or download the activity sheet, go to KM Writing Competition website

Schools signing up to the KM Charity Team’s walk to school schemes for the next academic year will receive an ‘early bird’ 20% discount when applying before the deadline of July 1. Visit the KM Walk to School website
