Enter Green School Awards by 7 December

Schools taking any steps to involve pupils in eco-friendly activities have the chance to win an accolade at the Green School Awards 2019.

Projects large and small at Primary or Secondary schools could be recognised and praised at the awards - but time is running out to place a nomination.

Anyone associated with a school including teachers, support staff, volunteers and parents, can nominate a green activity being carried out in the school grounds or in the wider community.

To encourage participation, each person placing a nomination by the 7 December deadline will go into a prize draw to win one of three family tickets to indoor theme park KidZania London.

The Green School Awards celebrate school environmental projects in six categories:

  • green travel and road safety
  • energy conservation
  • nature conservation
  • health and wellbeing
  • recycling
  • and this year for the first time - air pollution.

One of the awards judges, Adrian Bryant from ADM Computing, said: “We are very proud to be supporting the Green School Awards. We all live on this planet, the resources are finite and kids need to learn about these things.”

Other members of the judging panel include representatives from key partner Golding Vision, as well as EduKit, NCS Technology, Loop CR, East Kent Recycling; and Kent and Medway councils.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, said: “It’s great to have ADM Computing on board. With its use of green energy, encouragement of staff using green travel to get to work, and support for forest schools in China, ADM is a company that really takes its environmental responsibilities seriously.”

Mr Dolby added: “Now I would urge schools teaching pupils the importance of being green to enter the awards so the rest of the community can learn from their example.”

Entries over the years have included much-loved ‘lollipop’ ladies and gents; a beekeeping club, litter picking groups, projects to reduce food waste; and creative ways of maintaining interest and participation in schools’ walk to school schemes.

Award winners will be announced at a celebration event in February staged at the Ashford International Hotel.

Details of the winning initiatives will be published in a best practice document and shared with schools across the South East to inspire others to follow their lead.
