Final Countdown for KM Bright Spark Awards entries

Time is running out for pupils to be nominated to showcase their scientific genius at the KM Bright Spark Awards.

All entries for the annual school science competition, staged by the KM Charity Team, must be received by noon on Friday, June 2.

Designed to enthuse and excite students about the wonders of STEM subjects, the awards require demonstration of any combination of the following cross-curricular skills:

  • mathematics
  • design technology
  • engineering
  • ICT.

Entries will be judged in the categories Innovation, Investigation or Invention.

Primary and Secondary schools are eligible to take part and there is no limit to how many entries a school may submit, nor are there any team size restrictions.

All submissions will be examined by a judging panel and the finalists will be invited to a Dragons’ Den-style event at Discovery Park, Sandwich in which they must showcase and pitch their inventions. Top teams will win trophies and unique experience prizes while the overall KM Bright Spark Awards champions will receive £500.

Maxine Tarquini of the KM Charity Team said: “As the closing date for the KM Bright Spark Awards nears ever-closer, there is no time to waste in getting pupils’ incredible inventions submitted. The event is not only a thrilling experience for the teams but also a wonderful way to celebrate their work and encourage them to pursue a STEM career.”
