Fire Safety Guidance Amended

Headteachers and managers need to ensure they are managing fire safety. Fire safety guidance has been reviewed to assist with this requirement.

A review has recently taken place of the fire safety guidance provided by KCC. Following on from this review three of the guidance documents have been amended.

Firstly the ‘fire safety in the workplace’ document has been expanded, particularly in the areas of ‘staff training’ and ‘use of firefighting equipment’.

The ‘fire risk assessment guidance’ has also been updated and now includes specific information about competence of fire risk assessors, and also details about how often and by whom a fire risk assessment should be reviewed.

Finally the ‘fire safety log book’ now has more detailed information regarding frequency of testing and maintenance of the various fire safety systems provided in the workplace.

Headteachers and managers should take this opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the guidance and to ensure they are effectively managing fire safety arrangements at their premises.

All of the fire safety guidance documents and templates can be found on Kelsi here.
