Free school workshops from Dogs Trust

Dogs Trust's Education and Community Officer, Jo, delivers free exciting and interactive dog welfare workshops and assemblies to schools across Kent.

Responsible Dog Ownership and Staying Safe Around Dogs are the underpinning themes of the programme, and one or both of these will feature in all of the workshops. With links to the National Curriculum, workshops are delivered with a great deal of passion in creative and imaginative ways. A variety of teaching styles are used to create a memorable, positive learning experience as children discover how to stay safe around dogs, as well as the commitment involved in owning a dog through the use of tangible dog care items, as well as an assortment of other engaging resources.

Jo says "Our lessons are designed to naturally embed PSHE, as well as promote discussion around actions and consequences, and encourage critical thinking. We aim to include as many learning styles as possible by using drama, discussion, games and group work, to name but a few activities, in order to create a differentiated and inclusive learning experience. Our Education Programme is not linked to fundraising in any way; we simply want to help young people to learn more about being safe around dogs, caring for canine companions and encourage them to be responsible dog owners in the future. I have visited 207 Kent Schools during the six years that I’ve been in the role but am keen to ensure no pupils miss out on this great opportunity so if your school has not yet had a visit from me (or if you’d like another visit) do get in touch but be aware that I get booked up quickly!"
