Heart of Kent Hospice: Shaun the Sheep in the Heart of Kent art trail

Heart of Kent Hospice invites all schools to join their art trail Learning and Community Programme. The programme is linked to their second free art trail, Shaun the Sheep in the Heart of Kent, which will be coming to Maidstone and the surrounding areas in the summer of 2024 and will feature up to 50 individually designed Shaun sculptures, accompanied by a flock of little
Shauns to raise money for the Hospice.

The Learning and Community Programme aims to inspire and stimulate creativity, encourage minds to be curious and increase imagination. As well as creating opportunities for engagement to build confidence and improve artistic skills for everyone involved.

Erica Snow, Project Manager for Shaun in the Heart Kent, explains: “We're hoping that all schools will see the programme as an exciting opportunity. Schools that join the flock will adopt a little Shaun that they decorate, and their finished artwork will form part of the public trail.”

To help schools in their design process, they will receive an information pack that offers learning support to the curriculum. The information pack includes resources that create opportunities to encourage creativity through different mediums, supports soft skill development, and deliver positive elements of well-being by encouraging young people to express their thoughts and feelings
through creativity and art.

Annie Laughrin, Art and Learning Manager at Wild in Art which is working with Heart of Kent Hospice on the project, said: "We believe passionately in the power of creativity to engage young people in learning through fun, hands-on arts activities. The little Shaun sculptures are fantastic canvases and a great way to bring the excitement of Shaun in the Heart of Kent to schools and the
curriculum."

Mrs Lomax, Deputy Headteacher at Lunsford Primary School said: "As a school, we want to continue our support of the amazing work that the Hospice does to care for families in our community."

"We were part of Elmer’s Big Heart of Kent Parade, which the whole school thoroughly enjoyed, and I am pleased to share that we are continuing our support by adopting a little Shaun. Everybody is already very excited and looking forward to Shaun in the Heart of Kent art trail. Plus, I'm very proud to once again be showcasing the creativity of our young people."
