Help pupils to get ahead of the competition

Submit a meal masterpiece for school cookery contest Kent Cooks for the chance to win a mini break.

Schools are being urged to encourage entries for children’s cooking competition Kent Cooks this summer. Pupils can cook up a storm at school or at home and all entries received before September 1 will go into a prize draw to win a pair of Eurostar tickets.

The county’s official cookery contest for schools is now open to entrants aged between 6 and 19. They must prepare a meal they think is healthy and delicious and upload a photo plus cooking method to the Kent Cooks website. Each entry is turned into an online recipe page to show off their culinary masterpiece and encourage others to try it out for themselves.

Finalists are invited to attend an exciting Masterchef-style event to cook their menu for a panel of food industry experts. The judges will reward the best Kent Cook in the Primary, Secondary and Family categories with a goody bag, certificate and a share of £500. For adult-and-child entrants the accompanying adult can be a parent, guardian, Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), or Family Liaison Officer (FLO).

Maxine Tarquini from the KM Charity Team said: "Whole families can join in the fun - Primary school children, their siblings in Secondary school, and parent and child teams. It’s a wonderful way to develop a greater understanding of healthier food options, locally grown Kentish produce, and cooking to a budget.”
