Historic prize for young writers

Primary school children in Kent, Medway and Bexley have the chance to win an unforgettable experience at a leading family attraction.

The top prize for a creative writing competition organised by the KM Charity Team is the opportunity to become chief inspector of Leeds Castle, Maidstone for a morning.

Also known as ‘The Loveliest Castle in the World’, the historic Kentish landmark is home to a variety of wildlife and gardens, and offers play areas, a maze, falconry displays and much more over its 500 acres.

Some of the activities pupils will enjoy include a visit to the Aviary, a museum tour, selecting music for the annual firework display and having their very own special cake designed.

To enter the contest, pupils must complete an activity sheet called ‘I Spy’ where they are asked to effectively describe all the things they see and hear on the walk to school. Entries will be judged on creativity, awareness and quality of handwriting. Whoever provides the best description of their journey will be crowned king or queen of the castle.

Teachers, parents or guardians can assist with downloading and printing the activity sheet for a child as well as posting the completed story to the KM Charity Team.

To enter, simply visit the KM Charity Team writing competition website to download the Writing Competition activity pack. Submissions must be entered by noon on deadline day March 18.

The KM Charity Team run the KM Walk to School initiative and reading scheme Buster’s Book Club. Schools interested in a tester of the literacy service can enrol in Reading Bug today before joining Buster’s Book Club in the autumn.
