Inter Faith Week 2017

This year's Inter Faith Week runs from Sunday 12 to Sunday 19 November.

A flyer for the 2017 Week can be downloaded here

Inter Faith Week is about respect, understanding, relationship building and genuine discussion about issues - about 'living well together'. It was established as a way to highlight the positive contributions that faith communities make to society and to strengthen inter faith engagement, as well as dialogue with those of non-religious beliefs. It is a tremendous opportunity to reach out, learn, make new connections and develop friendships and working partnerships. These relationships can help make for greater neighbourliness and more cohesive communities. It is also a great platform for all who want to increase religious literacy and understanding of diversity.

Local inter faith bodies play a key role year round in fostering positive inter faith engagement and understanding about religion and belief in their local communities. An increasing number of local authorities are continuing to use the week as a time to work with the local inter faith organisation in their areas to hold events - or to invite their members and members of different faiths to civic receptions to celebrate this key area of work.

If you are thinking about whether to hold an activity and what that might be, the Inter Faith Week Toolkit has lots of ideas for marking the week complete with helpful checklists for organisers. The Inter Faith Network has also published a short, illustrated report on Inter Faith Week 2016: Stories from 2016, Inspiration for 2017. This is full of the interesting and exciting ways that people chose to mark the week last year. The report concludes with a short section looking forward to the week in 2017. We hope that it inspires you to take part.

IFN's Trustees hope that your school will join the many faith, belief and inter faith bodies, local authorities, community and voluntary organisations, businesses, emergency services, SACREs, schools, colleges, universities, chaplaincies, sports organisations and others who will be taking part this year.

If your school is planning an event we hope that your team will take time to register it online at the Inter Faith Week website here so that the lead you are taking will encourage others. Events will be published from late summer onwards.

If your team would like further information or to discuss a possible event, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Inter Faith Network office (details below).
