KCC Health and Safety Radon Standard

Radon is a natural, colourless, odourless, radioactive gas that occurs in rocks and soils, some building materials and water.

The ground is the most significant source as radon can seep out and build up in houses and indoor workplaces. Radon can be hazardous to health with long-term exposure.

To ensure that KCC buildings are suitably assessed for the presence of Radon and managed safely when Radon is found to be present, the KCC Health and Safety Team have produced a Radon Standard (PDF, 339.8 KB). This is complemented with a set of procedures that are being implemented by Infrastructure to ensure our buildings are safe from the risk of Radon exposure.
