Kent Teacher of the Year Awards 2018

More than 50 inspirational teachers, support staff, and volunteers were honoured at a glittering awards dinner organised by the KM Charity Team.

The Kent Teacher of the Year Awards brought best practice into the spotlight by showcasing the stars of Kent schools.

Fifty-four staff and teams representing 49 schools and colleges attended the prestigious event, which was hosted by Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, and Nicola Everett, news editor for KMFM, and staged at the Mercure Great Danes Hotel in Maidstone.

Special guests included KCC cabinet member for education Roger Gough, and celebrated children’s author and literacy ambassador for the KM Charity Team, Nick Butterworth.

A record-breaking 1,200 nominations were received and the winners were thrilled and humbled to be nominated for their efforts by members of their own community including pupils, parents, and colleagues.

Mr Dolby said: “It gives me great pleasure to showcase the excellence and achievement taking place in the classroom every day. These awards are a big pat on the back to those going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure their pupils enjoy learning, build in confidence, and achieve their best.”

Winners were announced for each district followed by just 23 overall Kent champions. The cream of the crop included Steve Davies of the Sheerness West Federation, who was awarded Kent Executive Head Teacher of the Year; Kim Howes from the Maidstone campus of Mid Kent College, who received the Kent Higher Education Teacher of the Year Award; Kat Harris from the Academy of Cuxton Schools in Rochester, who won Kent Trainee Teacher of the Year; and Adela Granger from St Anthony’s School in Margate, who was awarded Kent NQT of the Year.

The event aimed to spread best practice to all education professionals in the county and to this end a booklet has been published and circulated giving details of each award win.
