Kent Transition Charter - project update

As a result of the ongoing commitment to improving the experiences of children with SEND during transition phases, the Education and SEND directorate are working together to improve transition policy and practice in mainstream settings.

This work aims to implement The Transition Charter (PDF, 214.9 KB) and develop a 'Best Practice' guidance to aid its implementation by schools and LA. The Transition Charter was developed by a working group of Headteachers and KCC officers which sets out the responsibilities of the local authority and schools to ensure excellent quality transition between all phases for children and young people with SEND.

We are delighted to announce that KCC have seconded three school senior leaders  to take forward this important work and shape practice for the future. We welcome Cheryl Chalkley, Headteacher at Mersham Primary School, Matthew Tithecott, Inclusion Leader at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, and Jon Richardson, Inclusion Leader at New Line Learning Academy.  This opportunity for collaborative working to influence change is invaluable.
