Kent Youth County Council Elections 2024
13 September 2024
The countdown to this year’s KYCC elections has begun, it’s now time to sign up and get involved.
KYCC provides an opportunity for young people aged 11 to 18 years to represent their school countywide and get involved in campaigning on the issues important to young people. Over the last year KYCC Members have been campaigning on mental health and emotional wellbeing; public transport; feeling safe in Kent; and free school meals and tackling poverty. Projects have included developing a simple cookbook for young people by young people as well as working with Southeastern Trains to provide information on activities, things to do and safety issues for young people at stations throughout Kent.
This year’s KYCC elections will take place from Monday 11 November to Sunday 24 November, to coincide with UK Parliament Week. A great opportunity to bring Parliament Week to life with the youth elections. Schools and youth organisations can sign up to support the elections by completing a short form. Elections will take place online and by paper ballot, which will be delivered direct to schools.
Young people can sign up to get involved and be a candidate at the KYCC Elections website
Deadline for registration is Sunday 20 October 2024.
KYCC Members come together once a month, developing their skills as young campaigners, getting involved, sharing their ideas and experiences, and being heard. Young people are supported to travel to the meetings, with train tickets provided in advance or parents or carers mileage costs reimbursed. Young people also have the opportunity to participate in a range of training and fun, social activities in half term and summer holidays.
