Launch of resource pack for schools with Little Troopers 4-11 years

Little Troopers has launched a brand new resource pack for Primary Schools to help them talk about the military in class and provide support for our Little Troopers.

Moving home, schools and experiencing long periods of separation from a serving parent, can be a regular occurrence for those children whose parents serve in the British Armed Forces.

In a recent survey the charity Little Troopers found that families had moved an average of six times during childhood and 95% of those children attended local state school for their education.

Louise Fetigan, Founder of Little Troopers said; "I am so excited to be launching this pack. It is a unique resource that has been carefully planned, created and illustrated by us for schools. Recently we have heard that forces families and education settings need support with moving schools and supporting regular and sometimes concurrent separation periods."

The survey we conducted showed that the biggest issues with moving schools are changes between the educations systems in different countries and counties, catching up with the curriculum in each school and struggling with emotions.

When the charity Little Troopers wanted to test out the Primary School resource pack we chose to visit Alexander First School in Windsor. This school has 135 children in total and 64% (86) have a parent serving in the British Armed Forces. Alexander First School have embraced the Little Troopers at School project firstly accessing some of the free information sheets on the Little Troopers website which cover various topics such as the Service Pupil Premium, Challenges military children may face and many more.

Mariam Khokar, Assistant Headteacher said; "We're super excited about the Little Troopers at School pack. It's full of activities, lesson plans and lots more; the children have already started a special Little Troopers noticeboard and created some beautiful dandelions. Our teachers are already looking at how these new resources can help further support our children."

The Primary School resource pack includes over 30 resources with some of the templates loaded onto a USB to be reproduced and utilised within your setting. Here is a pack outline:
