Little Troopers: free workshop for military service children

Little Troopers, the military children's charity, will be running a free virtual primary school workshop on Thursday 7 July.

Little Troopers, the military children's charity, will be running a free virtual primary school workshop on Thursday 7 July 2022 for any school with service children (children who have parents serving in the British Armed Forces) aged 4 to 11. All schools are welcome, whether they have one or one hundred service children.

As the school holidays approach, many military families will be coping with deployment or preparing to move home, so now is the ideal time for schools to bring service children together and give them some tools to help them through these challenges (be that now or in the future) and to celebrate what it means to be a ‘little trooper’.

The theme of this year’s workshop is wellbeing and mindfulness and all the children who take part will be sent some goodies, including a pack of positive affirmation cards and a sticker.

Across the two-hour session, the children will take part in a games, movement, circle discussions, worksheets and a mindfulness breathing activity. Before the session, we will provide schools with detailed facilitation notes and downloadable resources to print out in advance.

Last year, more than 3,500 service children attended a similar workshop run by our charity with schools describing the session as providing “much-needed recognition and support for our forces children” and “a safe space [for children] to share and support each other emotionally, whilst eliciting a sense of pride and community spirit.”

By running a virtual workshop, our small charity can reach and benefit as many service children as possible and make them feel part of this special network of military children across our Armed Forces community. We would love to get as many schools as possible taking part on the same day to make this a forces-wide event and get the children excited about logging in with thousands of other military children across the British Armed Forces community. There isn't a set time for the day - schools will be sent the link and can deliver the session whenever it is convenient for them to do so.
