Ofsted publishes guide on what works well in remote education

Ofsted has published advice for leaders and teachers to help them develop their remote education offer.

The advice, written by the head of Ofsted’s research team, Professor Daniel Muijs, draws on findings from Ofsted’s interim visits, to set out some common myths about remote education, as well as evidence-based pointers.

The what works well in remote education guide has been designed to help schools and colleges deal with some of the difficulties and challenges they faced under current circumstances. It recommends that the remote education curriculum should be aligned to the classroom curriculum as much as possible, and carefully sequenced to ensure that pupils obtained the building blocks they needed to move on to the next step.

The guide suggests that whether learning was delivered through worksheets, textbooks, or through an online platform, resources should be simple and straightforward to use. It added that feedback and assessment were still as important remotely as they were in the classroom.
