Opportunity for recycling/repair project and funded STEM activities (worth up to £1,800)
31 December 2024
A fantastic opportunity has emerged to take part in the KCC run WEEE (Waste Electricals and Electronic Equipment) are the Future project. Launching in March 2025, the project is looking to increase recycling and repair rates among students and their families in five areas across Kent.
The project will last for four weeks in each school with up to 5 schools per area taking part at the same time.
Initial engagement activities will include a fully funded STEM activity (Team Repair) for a year group (within years 5-9) worth up to £1,800 (based on 180 students). Schools will be provided with bins to collect as many recyclable and repairable small electricals as possible within a four-week period.
Local schools will work together to compete against other ‘cluster areas’ to win prizes for most electricals repaired and most recycled. To achieve the repair element, each cluster will work alongside local repair cafes to organise a repair event in one of the schools in each cluster. This is a great opportunity for up to 25 schools to meet one of their climate action plan targets, develop STEM skills among students and build an awareness of recycling and repair opportunities, while increasing local recycling rates.
To have a chance of taking part in this project, please complete this Expression of Interest form.
Each school will need to be able to run the Team Repair STEM activities (2-3 hours of student time), have a site person/team able and willing to manage the recycling bins during the four-week period and help organise and promote a repair event.
