Event Summary

Schools are now required to include an accurate assessment of their EAL pupils’ English language proficiency in the January census.

This training will enable schools to carry out robust EAL assessments in order to meet this requirement.

Training Objectives

Delegates will:

  • Assess the position of their EAL pupils against a five point scale of reading, writing and spoken language proficiency outlined by the DFE
  • Confidently use a range of assessment tools to monitor and evaluate attainment of Minority Ethnic and EAL learners (focus on Kent Steps and NASSEA assessment)
  • Set appropriate targets for individual EAL learners
  • Identify effective strategies to enable learners to reach their targets.

Audience: Head and Deputy Headteachers, Key Stage managers, SENCOs, Inclusion Leads, Subject leaders, Teachers and NQTs.
