Pupil Premium Plus 2016-17
12 September 2016
The new arrangements, which came into effect last year, around the administration of Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) will remain for 2016/17.
The Local Authority will continue to receive £1,900 for each child in care and this funding will initially be retained by the Virtual School Kent Headteacher as required by the Department for Education (DfE). The funding is ring-fenced for making improvements for the educational attainment of children in care, and this new arrangement will strengthen the link between schools and VSK and support packages will be more creative.
The payment of this funding to schools in 2016/17 financial year will continue to be based on individual agreements between VSK and the school. These agreements will initially cover the period from 1 April 2016 through to 31 August 2017.
From 1 September 2016 a new agreement will be established which will cover the entire 2016/17 academic year. It is our intention to pay any agreed funding to schools in three installments:
- Installment 1 to be paid in the November 2016 advance for the period up to 31 December 2016
- Installment 2 to be paid in the February 2017 advance for the period up to 31 March 2017
- Installment 3 to be paid in the June 2017 advance for the period up to 3 August 2017.
If a child who is subject to a VSK agreement leaves your school before the end of term then the payment to your school will stop at the end of the current term/payment period. The funding will follow the pupil at the start of the next term/payment period with a new agreement between VSK and the new school.

Other Local Authority Children in Care
As in previous years schools will still need to make arrangements to collect funding from other Local Authorities for their children in care placed in Kent schools. They may apply a different payment profile which is at their discretion.
Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)
From April 2015, VSHs will also be responsible for managing the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) which will be given to early years providers that CiC attend. Early year’s providers are any organisation that offers education for children aged under 5, including nurseries and child minders.
