Put pen to paper to win a prize

A fun creative writing competition is offering Primary school children the chance to become the boss of a four-star hotel for a day.

Primary School pupils have until Monday 10 December to enter a contest to win the top job at Ashford International Hotel.

The winner will see what goes on behind the scenes at the luxury hotel and take part in a range of fun activities. Tasks will include checking that facilities are up to the highest standards, working with the concierge to ensure that guests enjoy a VIP reception, and taking part in a mock interview.

To enter, all children need to do is write a letter to their best friend persuading them to swap being driven in the family car for walking to school.

Judges of the competition are looking for creative and persuasive entries that demonstrate knowledge of the importance of green travel. Handwriting skills will also be considered in the judging process.

Competition organiser Sarah Clyne, of the KM Charity Team, said: “This is a super prize for one lucky pupil, who will get to enjoy the experience of taking charge of one of the county’s top hotels for the day.”

She added: “The competition is a great way to encourage children to practise their literacy skills and think seriously about their health and wellbeing - as well as that of their friends and the wider community.”

Entries must be handwritten on a ‘power of persuasion’ activity sheet that can be downloaded for free at  the KM Charity Team website

Submissions can be sent in the post or scanned and emailed to Sarah Clyne at sclyne@thekmgroup.co.uk but entries must be received by noon on Monday 10 December.

Former Be The Boss prizes have included Diggerland, Specsavers, Wildwood, Whitefriars, Hazlitt Theatre, kmfm radio, and Turner Contemporary.

The KM Charity Team provides services for schools including Super Wow (Walk on Wednesday) and home reading initiative Buster’s Book Club. Each scheme encourages classes to compete for a Class of the Week Trophy while monthly competitions offer prizes such as tickets to leisure attractions or visits by celebrity storytellers.

Schools joining Buster’s Book Club before 1 December will go into a prize draw to win 400 books for the school library.
