Shaping The Future: KAH Conference

This is a key event for the heads of Primary, Secondary and Special schools across the county.

The Kent Association of Headteachers' Annual Conference, 'Shaping the Future', will take place on 6 October, 2016, at the Ashford International Hotel. This is a key event for the heads of Primary, Secondary and Special schools in the county, and we are delighted to announce the list of confirmed speakers:

  • Lord Winston is Professor of Science and Society, and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies, at Imperial College London, where his work includes research into education, particularly that of school children. A celebrated scientist, he is also an internationally famous speaker, writer and broadcaster. In the 1970s, he developed gynaecological surgical techniques that improved fertility treatments. He later pioneered new treatments to improve in vitro fertilisation and developed pre-implantation diagnosis. Lord Winston entered the House of Lords in 1995. He is Chair of the Genesis Research Trust and the Governing Body of the Royal College of Music, Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, and Trustee of the Royal Institution. He founded the Wohl Reach Out Lab, a project that encourages children of all ages to be involved in experimental science at one of Europe's leading
    universities, and provides training for teachers.

  • Sue Campbell (Baroness Campbell of Loughborough), Chair of UK Sport from 2003 to 2013, was the strategic thinker credited with masterminding British success at the 2012 Olympics. Identified by the BBC, in 2013, as one of the 100 most powerful women in the UK, she is an inspiring speaker on leadership and culture change. She taught PE before becoming Deputy Director of Physical Education of the University of Leicester and a lecturer at Loughborough University. She was Chief Executive of the National Coaching Foundation from 1985 to 1995. Having been involved in the setting up of the Youth Sports Trust, she served as its Chief Executive from 1995 to 2005, when she became its Chair. She has been a cross bench peer in the House of
    Lords since 2008.

  • Estelle Morris (Baroness Morris of Yardley) was a teacher before becoming a Member of Parliament in 1992. In 2001, she was appointed Secretary of State for Education and Skills, and subsequently became Minister for the Arts. When she decided not to stand as a candidate in the 2005 General Election, she was made a life peer. She is now leading the performance in city schools in her new role as Chair of the Birmingham Education Partnership, a growing group of over 300 headteachers, which has taken over responsibility for
    school improvement from the City Council.

  • Toby Greany is Professor of Leadership and Innovation at the Institute of Education, and Executive Director of the London Centre for Leadership in Learning. His interests include system reform and system leadership, school leadership and improvement, and the nature and impact of evidence-based practice. A former teacher, he was, before joining the IOE, at the National College for Teaching and Leadership for seven years, as Acting Executive Director - Leadership Development; and Director - Research
    and Development.

In addition to the keynote speakers, the conference will include a range of workshops on aspects of leadership and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Full details of all workshops will be published once they have been finalised.

follows:

  • Conference, followed by drinks reception with accompanying jazz quartet from the Norton Knatchbull School £150.00
  • Conference, drinks reception and dinner followed by evening entertainment to finish the day with a bang! £205.00
  • Conference, drinks reception, dinner and evening entertainment with overnight accommodation £260.00.

NB: The venue are holding 40 rooms for accommodation until 22nd July. Should you wish to book accommodation after this date we cannot guarantee availability.

Prices will increase by £30 per delegate for any booking made after Saturday 23rd July.
