Sign up for Buster’s Book Club to win 400 books

Hundreds of books will go to one lucky school signing up this term for a phenomenally successful home reading scheme.

The reading reward scheme Buster’s Book Club is now open to schools wanting to join for 2019 - and schools that do so before December 1 will go into a prize draw to win 400 books.

Buster’s Book Club is run by the KM Charity Team and works by turning reading into a competition. In each participating school, children are asked to read at home each Wednesday evening - and there’s a weekly trophy for the best or most improved class, as well as stickers and certificates for individual children.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, with the books to be won by a school joining the charity’s reading reward scheme Buster’s Book Club.

Every month there are big prizes for the best classes in each district - such as tickets to leisure attractions like Wildwood, Leeds Castle, Diggerland, and Planet Ice skating rink, as well as storytelling visits from children’s authors, television presenters, and other celebrities.

The scheme has been a great success with participating pupils who collectively achieved a record eight and a half million minutes of reading last academic year.

Literacy co-ordinator Kathy Beel, of the KM Charity Team, said: “We find that children love the challenge and encourage each other to meet their reading targets. They learn to associate reading with having fun as well as reap the rewards of enhanced literacy skills."

She added: “We are thrilled to be in a position to offer this prize and hope it encourages more pupils to get stuck into their next great read.”
