Step Up to Social Work

Step Up to Social Work is an intensive full-time, fully funded, Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work training programme that allows you to become a qualified social worker in just 14 months.

We are looking for people who are committed to making a difference for disadvantaged children and families. You need to have a willingness to learn, be emotionally resilient and be able to undertake this challenging yet hugely rewarding academic degree programme.

If you are eligible and your application is successful, your university fees will be paid for by the Department for Education and you will receive a tax-free bursary of £19,833 over the duration of the programme to support you while you train. Childcare costs are not funded by this programme. The programme only runs once every two years, dependent on government funding, so if you’re interested, make sure you don’t miss out on your chance to apply! To assist you in your application, we have produced a candidate guide and we would recommend you read this guide prior to starting to complete the application form. You can download the candidate guide

Applications are now open. The application window closes at noon on Monday 3 April 2023. Trainees will work in either Kent or Medway local authority, gaining hands-on practitioner experience and academic learning. Successful trainees will be awarded a postgraduate diploma in social work once they complete the programme, allowing them to register and practice as a social worker.
