Still time to sign up for Buster's Book Club

Deadline approaching for Buster's Book Club; making reading cool in Kent.

Following a successful trial at 10 Kent primary schools in 2014, and triumphant full launch in 2015, the KM Charity Team is now accepting applications from schools in Kent and Medway wishing to sign up for Buster’s Book Club.

The initiative is designed to make reading cool and sets children an individual home reading target depending on their year group. Children are then set a series of challenges throughout the year - these include inter-class and inter-school events, all of which culminate with an annual record attempt. The scheme is proving very effective at involving parents and engaging with pupils, particularly boys.

Teachers and Literacy Leaders should view the video at the base of this page which was filmed at the evaluation session held at the pilot’s conclusion in July 2014. In 2015, 35 schools have used the initiative with participating children and families achieving a remarkable two million minutes of reading!

Prizes for the inter-school challenges include a visit by a storyteller, a hamper of books or free entry tickets to Leeds Castle or Silver Blades ice rink.

There is a small charge per class for schools signing up to Buster’s Book Club - to find out more complete the enquiry form on the Buster's Book Club website

You will be automatically emailed the information brochure and order form your school needs to take part. The deadline to sign up is noon on December 18.
