Support available for Non-English speaking children and young people

As pupils come back to school we want to highlight some support available for Non-English speaking children and young people.

The my-Ed team have been working closely with the Homes for Ukraine team and the Refugee Resettlement team to promote the usage of the my-Ed platform.

Access to the platform is available to all non-English speaking children and young people and we are particularly targeting our Ukrainian families and Afghan families.

The my-Ed Speaking English platform is free to all Kent schools for the 2022/23 school year.

More information can be found in the my-Ed Speaking English flyer (PDF, 1.5 MB).

In addition, there's various support and resources available from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to support those children and young people impacted by conflict.

Healing Classrooms resources - you can find all IRC resources (country briefings about Afghanistan and Ukraine, lessons plans and games bank) in the education section of our resource library

Welcoming refugee children to your school guide - the National Education Union (NEU) created this guide to support schools as they welcome refugee students. It explores how to create refugee-friendly schools and how to make the curriculum accessible while also delineating principles for effective practice. A great resource for the beginning of the academic year. Access it through the resource library
