Support your school’s Bright Sparks

Schools have just a couple of weeks left to submit nominations and give budding young scientists the chance to enter the dragons’ den and win top prizes.

The deadline to submit primary or secondary pupils’ science projects for the KM Bright Spark Awards is noon on June 2.

Projects eligible for entry require a team of pupils to use any of the following skills: maths, IT, science, electronics, engineering, and design and technology. The competition categories include the themes of Innovation, Investigation and Invention.

Those selected to take part in the exciting dragons’ den-style final will be filmed in advance in school to show the detail of the project. This will be screened at the event before the youngsters take to the stage to describe their creation and field questions from a panel of dragons made up of leading business people involved in the world of science and engineering.

Teams will compete for the chance to win trophies and ‘money can't buy’ experience prizes with the overall champs receiving £500.

Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team which is organising the event said: “The KM Bright Spark Awards are a great way to encourage the next generation of scientists, mathematicians, engineers and entrepreneurs. I encourage all schools and pupils to participate in this unique opportunity.”

The panel of judges, or dragons, will include representatives from Astro Communications Ltd, Benenden Hospital Trust, Integrated Technologies Ltd, Pfizer, Golding Vision, Prendon Panels Ltd, BAE Systems, Global Associates, and Megger.

Projects can be nominated by pupils, parents, teachers or other members of school staff. Simply complete the online form
