'Tis the season to be jolly and cook

Young Cooks 2023 is not just another "master chef" type contest - it's giving children the opportunity to gain and essential life skill and have fun!

One of the most important life skills we can give children is the ability to feed themselves. And that’s the whole purpose of Young Cooks 2023.

Young Cooks! Your invitation to be a Young Cook. £500 prize money. To find out more visit kmcharityteam.co.uk/youngcooks

Young Cooks is a Kent wide cooking competition for children and young people of all ages but it’s not just another “master chef” type competition. We are not looking for another Jamie Oliver - I think we can all agree that one is quite enough! The purpose of the initiative is to introduce children to cooking, learning something about budgeting and having fun! Another advantage is that parents and carers also get the evening meal cooked for them in the process - so it really is a win win!

Young Cooks 2023 is open to all children and young people across Kent. There are three categories:

  • Primary
Primary entries are asked to make a shepherd’s or cottage pie - but they can be as creative as they like. The only requirement really is that it’s topped with potato so it can be veggie or even get creative and maybe use up some of the leftover turkey – it’s entirely up them! Then there’s the Victoria sponge - well any sponge sandwich really!
  • Secondary
Secondary students cook a savoury pie of their choice including the pastry and a gluten free cake or dessert.
  • 16+
16+ can cook anything - but it has to be a main and desert!

All entries must stick to a strict budget of £10, tell us the whole recipe including method and ingredients and of course a photo or their creations!

After all the excitement of the big day and the endless hours spent in the kitchen, Young Cooks is the perfect activity to get someone else to do the cooking, spend some quality time together and most importantly have fun!

For more information and to enter your creations simply visit the KM Charity Team website. We can’t wait to see what you come up.

From all the of us at KM Charity Team - Merry Christmas and happy cooking!
