Upper North Street School - 100 Year Anniversary Memorial Service - 15 June 2017

Stanley Kaye has been helping the now named Mayflower Primary school to arrange the 100 year remembrance ceremony on 15 June 2017. In his research, he has found reference to schools and councils from not only the UK, but across the world, sent flowers, letters and cards of sympathy to the school at the time and on the day of the funerals. Reports say that over 600 wreaths and bunches of flowers covered all of the children's' coffins.

We are inviting Kent schools to send a card or a letter to the children at the school 100 years on just to say that they will also remember the 18 children killed on that awful day.

By doing this, your school children will gain a deeper understanding of how everybody was affected by World War 1, not only those fighting in the trenches.

Sixteen of the children's families have been traced from across the world and two will be coming from New Zealand and one from Canada; and possibly one from the U.S.A. They are also trying to trace the teachers families that were at school that day

On the 15 June 2017, there will be a memorial service to remember the children. They are expecting 500 people to be involved. This includes 300 local school children who will be doing a performance of their own. At 11:40am there will be 2 minutes silence and maybe your schools may like to take part in this.

All Saints Church, Poplar, held 15 of the Children`s funerals and this is the church that will hold the 100th anniversary ceremony.
