Winter Mini Challenge

Free winter reading event for children.

Winter Mini Challenge - Ready, Set, Read!

Following the brilliant success of the Summer Reading Challenge, the Winter Mini Challenge is on its way running from 1 December till 19 February and will be continuing the Ready, Set, Read! theme brought to life once more by the amazing illustrator, Loretta Schauer.

The Winter Mini Challenge encourages children to keep up their reading habits over the winter break. Join the six characters as they have fun on a winter walk to the library and spark a love of reading even in the most reluctant of readers.

Taking part in the Winter Mini Challenge is simple. Children read at least three books of their choice between 1 December 2023 and 19 February 2024 and add them to their online profile at the Winter Mini Challenge website. Reaching their reading goal will unlock a limited-edition virtual badge and a special Winter Mini Challenge certificate to print off and keep. You’ll find lots of other stuff on The Reading Agencies website too, book reviews, activities and content from the best children’s authors and illustrators around. For parents, they have a Home Zone and Library Zone with more information and top tips to help parents and children keep up to date with news and competitions on their Facebook page

Kent libraries will be featuring a run of social media posts on our Facebook page leading up to the start of the challenge, and these will continue throughout the event to help maintain awareness and interest. We will also have available a linked webpage to our catalogue as a useful tool where customers will be able to find info about the WMC, plus access related social media content and
other related information.

The wonderful thing is that the Winter Mini Challenge is absolutely free, and children can either read their own books or pop onto their closest library and choose from a huge selection of books, all free of charge.

Please feel free to share this information and promote wherever you can. Let’s keep children reading and make this year’s Winter Mini Challenge a fantastic success.
