Youngsters given cultural insight

Students at Kingswood Primary School got a glimpse into other cultures during a diversity day.

The children had workshops where they learned about Japanese story-telling, identity and ways of life in Eastern European countries.

Darren Waters, head of the Cayser Drive school, said: “A lot of the conversations in the press are about thinking about immigration and the EU so we wanted to make the children aware about these decisions being made for them. And that part of the EU or not, we have our own values that can shine through, regardless of those decisions.”

All 130 pupils took part and came together to share what they had learned with parents at the end of the day.

Learning about equality and identity and celebrating the diversity of Modern Britain is now more essential than ever in our schools and settings.

The Inclusion Support Service Kent model workshops in schools that will instil a greater knowledge, understanding and respect in children and young people for their own culture and beliefs as well as those of others.
