Take part in the English Heritage Art Competition for KS4 and 5 students at Walmer Castle and Gardens

Complement your teaching in the classroom and be in with a chance of winning art supplies!

This is the second year we’re running this popular competition for KS4 and 5 art students. Walmer Castle and Gardens will provide the inspiration for your students to create their own piece of art - we're not limiting them to any particular media so they have the freedom to experiment. Well-known local artist Richard Friend* will be judging the entries and is happy to provide some guidance and insight at the initial stages.

The competition prizes are:

  • £100 of art supplies for the winning pupil
  • £100 of art supplies for the winning pupil's school
  • £50 of art supplies for two runners up

Taking part is easy and we'll provide you with help and support:

  • Register your interest by 30 September 2015 by calling Rachel Hudson on 01304 204475 or emailing artcompetition@english-heritage.org.uk. She will send you a support pack full of ideas
  • You and your students can visit Walmer Castle and Gardens for free as many times as you need. We suggest visiting in the autumn to gather inspiration (please note Walmer Castle is closed weekdays from 1 November 2016 until 18 February 2017)
  • With prior notice, Richard Friend will meet you at Walmer Castle to discuss how you can use the garden as the basis for your entries.

The closing date for entries is 21 April 2017. A selection of entries will be displayed at Walmer Castle and Gardens' 'Blooming Gardens' event in early June 2017.
