Young Experts Panel
Autism Education Trust Young Experts
The Autism Education Trust (AET) Young Experts Panel is a group of 10 autistic young people aged 16 to 25 from all over England who share their experiences of education and hold the AET team accountable for the work they do. The panel is formed of a dedicated group of autistic young people who understand the challenges of education and are experts in what works best for autistic young people in education. Every autistic young person is an expert in what support they need to experience a positive education and engage in employment, so it is crucial that they are included in discussions about their lives.
The role of the Young People’s Panel is to enable autistic young people to:
- share their experience and views.
- contribute their ideas to the AET’s thinking, plans and projects.
- take part in developing AET training.
- contribute to evaluating the AET’s impact.
- empower other autistic young people to input to the AET
The AET Young Experts Panel have created a Youtube Channel with videos describing their experiences of autism in everyday life.
"I have a 20 yr old son with Autism and I am so happy the use of language has changed. The process as a parent was so negative due to how he was expected to conform. This is wonderful that schools are changing."
Delegate from Kent County Council Training.
In Kent, we have our own Young Expert's Panel who will share their experiences of education and ensure that the AET training materials reflect their voice. The panel is a group of 12 young people aged 11-18 from across Kent. We are also working with the Kent Youth Council.
